Base spec Audi e-tron 50 quattro revealed with less performance, less range and a slower charge time, due to arrive in 2020
Audi has revealed an entry-level version of its all-electric SUV, called the e-tron 50 quattro. It will sit under the existing e-Tron 55 quattro, will feature less performance, a lower range and slower charge times. Prices are expected to start from around £63,000, with first deliveries due in early 2020.
Like the range-topping variant, the e-tron 50 quattro features an electric motor on each of its axles and four-wheel-drive. However, due to its smaller 71kWh battery pack, its power and torque figures are lower at 308bhp and 540Nm in comparison to 402bhp and 664Nm.
As a result, the e-tron 50 quattro’s top speed is reduced to 118mph, while 0–62mph takes 1.3 seconds longer at seven seconds flat. Range drops to 186 miles over the 55 quattro’s claimed 249 miles.
The base-model Audi e-tron also supports 120kW fast charging, allowing its batteries to recover 80 per cent of their capacity in around half an hour. The SUV’s electric motors can recuperate energy under deceleration too, with priority given to the rear motor, which tops up the EV’s battery pack on the move.
Audi’s connect charging system will be offered as an optional extra and adds smart charging functions such as off-peak charging, allowing customers to take advantage of cheaper electricity rates. The system also includes the myAudi app, which allows owners to manage their e-tron’s charging, as well as remotely programme the car’s climate control system.
Despite its reduced performance, equipment levels for the base-model e-tron 50 quattro will be comparable to the cheapest e-tron 55 quattro, with two-zone climate control, adaptive air suspension and a digital instrument binnacle coming as standard. Official prices and specs will be confirmed closer to the car’s launch, and we’ll update you when they’re available.
